An Untold Story: What is Never Far Gone (NFG)?
Are you an avid moviegoer with a fascination for the zombie apocalypse? How about a gamer who is obsessed with finding Easter Eggs or References to other videogames, shows, and/or movies? Either way, Never Far Gone (NFG) was designed to cater to the needs of anyone looking for a new and exciting first-person perspective on an apocalyptic setting.
What is Never Far Gone?
Beginning in Early 2014, Never Far Gone is a Fictional Apoocalypic tale that focuses on the collapse of New York City following an abrupt increase of “aggressive humanoids” populating the boroughs. As the events unfold, we witness them from the perspective of Miles Gether, a 36-year-old veteran who was recently discharged from the Armed Forces due to medical complications following an altercation while on duty.
As chaos ensues and turmoil unfolds, Miles has a revelation that changes not only his fate but the fate of the group he eventually establishes (called the “Thrivers”): Securing the Metro Transit System. By gaining unrestricted access to the trains, Miles establishes the first “Network of Traders” within the new world in which he has found himself, allowing for a rapid expansion of the Thrivers’ influence throughout the city.
With the Thrivers broadening their reach throughout the boroughs, everything seems to be going in the direction it was supposed to. Yet through a seemingly endless array of betrayals, hubris, and lack of judgment, Miles’ progression is knocked off its path, as he soon finds himself consistently struggling with maintaining what he set out to achieve in the first place: Control.
How is NFG different than other apocalyptic stories?
With 10+ years of development relating to the creation of Never Far Gone, I can proudly say that the story focuses on many aspects that many modern-day Apocalyptic stories often miss out on:
Realism that enhances the Reader’s Engagement
Character Development that allows for deeper connections to those introduced throughout the story
Symbolism that allows for a more personal relationship to the story
References (Everybody loves Easter Eggs and, trust me, there are a lot of them…)
Originality, as the creation of Events, Enemies, and Dialogue are approached in an entirely different manner than ever before
Side Note: Notice how Realism is underlined above? That’s because Never Far Gone (NFG) takes pride in the way its Action sequences (such as Fight Scenes, Shootouts, and Firearm Manipulations), Characters, and Settings are all portrayed. With such an emphasis on attention to detail, it’s safe to say that NFG was designed for those looking to easily visualize the story as if they were in it themselves. Details are key!
Introducing the "Zombies" in Never Far Gone (NFG)
In Never Far Gone (NFG), the infected that are introduced relatively early in the story, are commonly referred to as Spectrals (or Specs, for short).
When creating this enemy, we wanted to take a slightly different approach regarding how they react, what they look like, and, ultimately, just how threatening they are to anyone who encounters them. As such, the Spectrals exhibit a combination of physical and mental characteristics that are seen throughout other sources of Zombie Fiction:
The Spectrals are Blind when exposed to Excessive Light, due to a substantial increase in retina sensitivity after infection, but they are fast and aggressive during this time.
On the contrary, Spectrals are Fully vigilant when in Darker Environments (ie. Tunnels, Outside during the Night, etc.), so they have slower movements and less aggression.
Like humans, Body Shots CAN Kill a Spectral. Without enough blood to properly cycle throughout the body, the Specs are just as susceptible to the consequences as humans are. So yes, HEADSHOTS WORK, TOO!
Bites do spread the infection (shocker!), but since it is a Blood-borne Pathogen, the infection could spread when exposed to Bodily fluids from an Infected Host (such as, you guessed it, Blood!)
The Infection Time varies depending on the location of the bite(s), how many bites a person receives, and/or the amount of Bodily Fluids ingested.
The Average Time for Infection ranges from as quick as 10 minutes to 5 Days

What is the Theme of Never Far Gone (NFG)?
One of the central themes of Never Far Gone (NFG) is Control, or lack thereof.
What does “Control” mean to you? Does it refer to how we respond to the situations we find ourselves in? Or our tendency to regulate everyone and everything around us? For people like Miles, this word signifies a purpose, as well as how far one is willing to go to establish oneself within the gruesome world they’ve found themselves in.
The word, itself, is seen consistently throughout the story, particularly when Miles has a life-altering decision to make. For an in-depth look at the Theme of NFG, as well as an overview of ALL of the major decisions made throughout Never Far Gone, click on the respective links above.
